Haven’t posted in a bit because we have been busy finishing the chicken coop. Jamie has a number of in progress pics to post but here is the coop and a few shots of the ladies and Ricardo. For this evening and tomorrow we will keep them in the coop and hopefully start letting them roam during the day shortly – we just want to make sure that everyone survived a hot stressful move and are settled before we go free.
Here is the coop from the side – the sticking out bit are the nest boxes. The shape outlined by day light to the left of the door is their ramp combo door. When we want to open the coop we just let down the ramp. We intend to still make a door cutout that is more chicken sized – and of course it is not yet winter ready.
Here are the back of the nest boxes – they flip open, this means we don’t have to enter the coop to collect the eggs.
Here are a few shots of the inside with full chicken action.
And finally a shot of Ricardo – the picture does not do him justice due to the low lights.
The coop has been named Fantasy Island, and Ricardo is large and in charge. There are 7 hens for us to name – feel free to leave ideas…
I’m not entirely sold on “Fantasy Island”. I think I’m just as likely to call it Ceti Alpha V.

maybe the most nervous hen or the busiest hen could be the “Little Red Hen”. Oh dear the sky is falling! Not sure how the story went anymore. I’ll need to read it to Betty.
