Poulet

Haven’t posted in a bit because we have been busy finishing the chicken coop. Jamie has a number of in progress pics to post but here is the coop and a few shots of the ladies and Ricardo. For this evening and tomorrow we will keep them in the coop and hopefully start letting them roam during the day shortly – we just want to make sure that everyone survived a hot stressful move and are settled before we go free.

Here is the coop from the side – the sticking out bit are the nest boxes. The shape outlined by day light to the left of the door is their ramp combo door. When we want to open the coop we just let down the ramp. We intend to still make a door cutout that is more chicken sized – and of course it is not yet winter ready.

Here are the back of the nest boxes – they flip open, this means we don’t have to enter the coop to collect the eggs.

Here are a few shots of the inside with full chicken action.

And finally a shot of Ricardo – the picture does not do him justice due to the low lights.

The coop has been named Fantasy Island, and Ricardo is large and in charge. There are 7 hens for us to name – feel free to leave ideas…

Saturday Afters

We managed to entirely get rid of the tree. I did also get 2 gardens de-jungled and got the lawn cut.

The garden I showed the before of, now without the tractor cart.

The garden by the back door – the onlythings we decided to salvage were the flowering almond and some pretty rocks.

A shot of the progress that we had made on the tree from the “Befores”.

And finally, the tree completely gone from the front yard.

Just one more fallen tree in he front yard to clean up and we’ll be ready to fully cut the lawn.

Saturday Befores

Since we expect rain tomorrow I’ve been giving the outdoors a lot of attention today. Below are some before photos of our 3-5 year neglected gardens. Hopefully I will have some good after photos. Jamie is continuing his work on the coop after a brief break to help me with a driveway fire. I forgot to take a before of a couple of places but I figure you will be in enough awe from the few befores that you’ll get the impression of just how overgrown everything was/is.

This tree has been down since long before we took over the place.

The brush pile we needed to burn – because there is no yard waste pick up in the country.

This is actually a raised bed garden, the barely visible peony is the middle of the garden. This was after I cut down a tree.
