Today the chicks got a second waterer and a hopper for their food dish. They’ve been mostly emptying the food dish twice daily.
Chicks, Day 2
The new chicks have been with us for about 30 hours now, and just received a housing upgrade. They’re now running and scratching around in their very own turtle pool. They look really happy to have so much extra room.
Introducing Ruby and Rosie
The pond she is a ponding.
Spent the better part of my day outside doing stuff and things. The nature part of it was to get the pond up and running. I spent some time with a rake lifting the 3 inch carpet of oak leaves so that Jamie could come in and vacuum them up to use in the vegetable garden. The lilies are up so I can get moving them around because last year it looked more like a jungle than a garden. I got the filter all cleaned up and the pump running again and for the first time in 2 years I got the water feature to work. To be clear the waterfall working would be great bet we discovered that some where inside the mortared tubing there is a crack that causes the pond to just lose water. Last year I bought a spitting turtle and promptly broke his leg so he wasn’t in use. So this time around I got the turtle repaired and spitting – I like the sound of running water. The exciting news is that although the fish did not survive there are a few snails that seem to have survived and are busy cleaning the pond sides. I will go back and adjust tubing and do a final leaf skim in a couple of days once I know the filter is happy. Pictures are below – whole garden area and then just the wee pond.
In the not so nature department I managed to get the Focus up and running, the exterior of both cars cleaned (first time in 6 months) and cleaned out and vacuumed the 4 runner for the first time – man straw can find its way into everything. I am going to call this weekend a success in the getting stuff done department.
